Anna Kłys

author biographical note degree piece

My pieces have been inspired by my grandma Ola’s stories from her youth. In her memories folk religion is mixed with the child’s perception of the world. Distance between these events and the present day has made the stories fragmentary and distorted. This has directly affected the form used by me: disfiguration of both characters and objects depicted in the series. Ephemeral nature of memories has affected the expression of pieces, and pure, saturated colours symbolise overblown memories. The series is a discourse on memory and the present.
